Minutes of Annual General Meeting of Kilrush Town Council held on the 19th June 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Kilrush

The outgoing mayor thanked the elected members, officials and staff of the council for their assistance and co-operation over the past 12 months. The mayor reviewed some of the highlights of a busy Council year, mentioning:
- The HGVs/traffic issues on which solutions were being worked;
- The approval of the Pilot Phase of the John Paul Regeneration project;
- The variation of the Development Plan to facilitate further development;
- The revision of the parking places bye-laws;
- The Silver medal Tidy Towns award in 2005;
- The Civic Awards and Special Olympics Flame of Hope reception at the Vandeleur Gardens.
The elected members paid tribute to the outgoing mayor for his impartiality, diplomacy, and good humour throughout the past year.The town manager and town clerk also thanked the outgoing mayor and all the members for their support. The manager said the John Paul project was a large and very important one and it was confirmed that the Department had approved funding for a dedicated project manager for the pilot phase.
The outgoing mayor thanked the members and all the staff at every level for their work and said he had enjoyed the year and wished the incoming mayor well.
Election of the Office of Cathaoirleach/Mayor
Ar Moladh Cllr. Tom Clyne cuidithe ag Cllr. Tom Prendeville:
Cllr. Stephen O’Gorman was nominated for the office of cathaoirleach/mayor. The Mayor asked for any further nomination. Ar Moladh Cllr. Marian McMahon-Jones cuidithe ag Cllr. Deirdre Culligan :- Cllr. Tom Clyne was nominated for the office of cathaoirleach/mayor. It was then clarified that Cllr Clyne declined the nomination for mayor and therefore, as there was only one nomination, Cllr Stephen O’Gorman was elected as the mayor. Mayor O’Gorman then took the chain of office and the chair and expressed his gratitude for the honour of being elected as cathaoirleach/mayor. He paid tribute to the outgoing mayor and said that he was confident of getting the same co-operation of all members as his predecessor did.
- Election of the Office of Leas-Cathaoirleach/Vice-Mayor
Ar Moladh Cllr. Tom Prendeville cuidithe ag Cllr. Liam O’Looney:-
Cllr. Tom Clyne was nominated for the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor.
The Mayor asked for any further nominations.
Ar Moladh Cllr. Deirdre Culligan cuidithe ag Cllr. Marian McMahon-Jones:-
Cllr. Jack Fennell was nominated for the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor.
The Mayor then asked for any further nominations, but none were forthcoming.
As two nominations were received for the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor, a vote on the choice of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor took place.
The following elected members voted in favour of Cllr. Tom Clyne for the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor :
Cllrs. Prendeville, O'Looney, Clyne, O'Gorman, O'Malley.
The following elected members voted in favour of Cllr. Fennell for the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor :
Cllrs. McMahon-Jones, Culligan, Fennell.
As the number of votes for Cllr. Clyne were in the majority (5:3), the Mayor declared that Cllr. Clyne was elected to the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice-mayor of Kilrush Town Council and the mayor congratulated him.
A query was raised about the date and time of the July meeting and the town clerk clarified that at the June meeting, it had been agreed to bring forward the date to the first Thursday in July and the time to 4:00 p.m.
Cllr. Culligan gave apologies in advance for the July meeting.
