Festivals & Events
Each year Kilrush & West Clare host a large number of events and festivals that capture the unique festival atmosphere in West Clare. A comprehensive listing of events and festivals confirmed for 2006 can be found in the Calendar of events section of this website.
Éigse Mrs. Crotty Traditional Music Festival
The Éigse Mrs. Crotty Traditional Music Festival is the main event on the Kilrush calendar every year. This unique festival of concertina music celebrates the legacy of a remarkable West Clare musician, Elizabeth Crotty. Held in August every year, the festival’s broad musical programme of events appeals to both veterans of the concertina and newcomers to the craft alike. Now in its eleventh year this festival has grown steadily since the first weekend of music in 1995.
Traditional Horse Fairs
The tradition of Horse Fairs & Markets is still alive in Kilrush with four Horse fairs taking place on the streets of Kilrush. Dates for the Kilrush Horse Fairs are as follows:
- 25th March
- 1st Thursday in June
- 10th October
- 23rd November
Kilrush Farmers Market
With its tradition as a market town it was appropriate that Kilrush Farmers Market opened for business in the Market Square, Kilrush on the 16th of August 2003. The market runs all year round apart from a short winter break and supplies the town of Kilrush with fresh home grown farm produce from the surrounding area. Every Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. you can choose from a selection of fresh baked goods, vegetables, cheeses, jams, honey, eggs and much more. Why not drop down to the square on market day.
