Minutes of Annual General Meeting of Kilrush Town Council held on Monday 15th June 2009 at 4.00 p.m. in The Courthouse, Moore St., Kilrush

Cllr. O'Looney opened the meeting and welcomed the new and existing members and all present.  He also paid tribute to the outgoing councillors and thanked his family for their support over the last 12 months.  He reflected on his year as mayor of Kilrush Town Council and spoke on the John Paul Estate Regeneration Programme, the Christmas Lights Project and Tidy Towns achievements.

 

Item No. 1: Return of persons elected

The town clerk listed the names of persons elected following the election held on the 5th June 2009:-

  • Cllr. Paul Moroney, 21 Upper Cappa Drive, Cappa, Kilrush Non-party
  • Cllr. Liam Williams, The Square, Kilrush Fine Gael
  • Cllr. Ian Lynch, 14 Nagles Terrace, Kilrush Fine Gael
  • Cllr. Tom Clyne, 1 Island View, Kilrush Non-party
  • Cllr. Tom Prendeville, Fort Road, Cappa, Kilrush Fianna Fáil
  • Cllr. Marian McMahon-Jones, 43 Moore Street, Kilrush Fine Gael
  • Cllr. Stephen O'Gorman, 35 Sycamore Drive, Kilrush Fianna Fáil
  • Cllr. Liam O'Looney, Dooneen Park, Kilrush Fianna Fáil
  • Cllr. Mairead O'Brien, 21 Beal an Inbhir, Shanakyle Road, Kilrush Non-party

The members collectively thanked those who had voted and canvassed for them.  They said they were proud to be members of Kilrush Town Council and were looking forward to working in partnership for the betterment of Kilrush. 

 

Item No. 2: Election to the office of Cathaoirleach mayor.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Williams cuidithe ag Cllr. O'Brien:

Cllr. McMahon-Jones was nominated for the office of Cathaoirleach mayor.

There being no further nominations Cllr. McMahon-Jones was elected to the office of cathaoirleach/mayor.

Mayor McMahon-Jones said that a great honour had been bestowed upon her and it was a great privilege for her to take up the mantle.  She congratulated Jack Fennell on his retirement; commiserated with the outgoing councillors; welcomed the new and returning councillors and assured the new council of her availability to members.  She thanked all council officials and her family for their support.  The members congratulated Cllr. McMahon-Jones on her election as Mayor of Kilrush and assured her that they were looking forward to working in partnership with her in the challenging times ahead.

Item No. 3: Election to the office of leas-cathaoirleach vice-mayor.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Lynch cuidithe ag Cllr. Moroney:

Cllr. Williams was nominated for the office of leas-cathaoirleach vice-mayor.

There being no further nominations Cllr. Williams was elected to the office of leas-cathaoirleach/vice mayor.

 

Item No. 4: Appointment of 2 delegates to Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Lynch cuidithe ag Cllr. O'Brien:

Cllr. McMahon-Jones was nominated for the 1st position.

As no other nominations were received, Cllr. McMahon-Jones was elected as the 1st delegate to the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Lynch cuidithe ag Cllr. O'Brien:

Cllr. Moroney was nominated for the 2nd position.

As no other nominations were received, Cllr. Moroney was elected as the 2nd delegate to the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland.

 

Item No. 5: Appointment of 1 member to the Board of Clare Local Development Company.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Moroney cuidithe ag Cllr. Lynch:

Cllr. O'Brien was nominated to be the Council member on the Board of Clare Local Development Company.

As no other nominations were received, Cllr. O'Brien was elected to represent Kilrush Town Council on the Board of Clare Local Development Company.

Item No. 6: Appointment of 1 member to the Board of Kilrush Amenity Trust.

Ar Moladh Cllr. O'Brien cuidithe ag Cllr. Williams:

Cllr. Moroney was nominated to be the Council member on the Board of Kilrush Amenity Trust.

As no other nominations were received, Cllr. Moroney was elected to represent Kilrush Town Council on the Board of Kilrush Amenity Trust.

Item No. 7: Appointment of 1 member to Board of Vandeleur Walled Garden Enterprises Ltd.

Ar Moladh Cllr. Lynch cuidithe ag Cllr. Moroney:
 
Cllr. Williams was nominated to be the Council member on the Board of Vandeleur Walled Garden Enterprises Ltd.

As no other nominations were received, Cllr. Williams was elected to represent Kilrush Town Council on the Board of Vandeleur Walled Garden.

Item No. 8: Schedule of Ordinary Meetings of Kilrush Town Council.

For noting purposes the town clerk informed the members of the dates for the monthly meetings up to the AGM in 2010. He further informed them that special meetings could also be held during the year.
The county manager welcomed the new council and assured them of his assistance over the next five years in what will be difficult times with difficult decisions to be made.  He spoke on the great developments ongoing in the town and advised that working in partnership will get things done for the town.

The meeting then concluded.
